Mandurah: MMUG Gnomesville Trip June 2012

Date posted: June 10, 2012

Every year we take a little trip down south to visit our plot in Gnomesville. And each year we are amazed by the increase in population of those little gnomes....they breed like rabbits! Looking forward to the 2013 trip!!

Hi Everyone,           Sunday Ride to “Bailup (Ford) Motor Museum”We had a good turnout for the ride to the “Bailup (Ford) Motor Museum”. Where on earth is the  “Bailup (Ford) Motor Museum”?  I can hear you ask. Well it’s on the way to Toodyay (pronounced Toojay, just in case you didn’t know), out past Wooroloo on the Toojay Road. Fremantle Ulysses invited all of the Southwest Branches to join them for this Sunday Ride, so at 08:00 on Sunday 24th February,Myself, Danny Shepherd, Burrito, Alan Bennett, Mick & Deb and a new member, Ray Roman, stood around patiently waiting for our Ride Leaders, Ian & Pam.Ian & Pam arrived only a few minutes late and we were soon on our way up the Kwinana Freeway, onto the Roe Highway then right onto Kalamunda Road and into Kalamunda. Here we drifted around the Sunday Markets, where some misguided folks tried to convert me to being a vegetarian. Me a vegetarian! I eat half a pig for breakfast some mornings. We found a Café and had morning coffee and waited for the “Freo Mob” to arrive.Soon we are on our way again, through the hills past Mundaring Weir into Mundaring, across the Great Eastern Highway onto Stoneville Road.At Toojay road we turned left and after a few km, right into O’Brien road. Somewhere along this road is where Peter Brock signed off a year or so ago, while taking part in a rally, I had been warned that there were some tricky corners so I took it very easy.  After about 20 km we were back on Toojay road heading towards Toojay again and a few km later we turned off onto a property which turned out to be the Museum.            Tony the guy that owned the place had everything ford from a “T” Model to the latest Mustang and a shed full of GTHO Falcons, even some American “Yank Tanks”, very impressive! We spent some time wandering around the exhibits and then the worms started to chew so we headed back to Gidgegannup for a late lunch at the bakery, then home via the quickest route.Round Trip 297km

A good turn out at 9am, with 10 bikes on the starting grid, none of them vying for Pole Position. In the end Alan on his Noddy trike led us out of the car park, followed by Potty, Ray, Danny, Pam, Dave W, Burrito, The Colonel,  and the dynamic duo Ron & John. Gosh it sounds like Mrs Marchant in the Library with the candlestick......   Anyway, we headed off down south, and as the Colonel only had a short leave pass we went straight for the freeway. Pam got caught in the wrong lane and sailed past everyone else who was turning left, but managed to catch up. Ron & John felt the gravel road was a bit iffy  so decided to take a detour onto some bitumen. The rest of us sailed thru the stones.....really quite solid due to some strange natural weather thing called rain... and only lost one more rider who had to stop for wee wee's. Eventually all of us met up in Yarloop, and also bumped in to Fezz and Brian, and rumour has it Chick was floating around somewhere too. All in all the actual "Swap Meet" was disappointing, with more action in the car park outside than in the actual meet. However our spirits were raised when The Colonel suggested a return trip via the Premier Hotel in Pinny, and a stop for lunch. We left Ron & John who were already chowing down, and headed off to Pinny. They of course arrived later and somehow managed to get served before most of us.... must be that sexy Dutch accent John!! All up a pleasant day for it, but then isn't every day??
