MAOTY 2012 - VIC/TAS Zone winner

MAOTY 2012 - VIC/TAS Zone winner

On Monday 25th February, about 35 Central Victoria Ulysses Branch members met at Elliot’s bros. Motorcycles in Bendigo to present the VIC/TAS zone winner with his award.

Clinton and Peter, the new owners of Elliot Bros Motorcycles were there to greet us to get things underway with a nice looking Honda Shadow for the photos. We all gathered around the Honda Shadow as Tony Elliot presented Darcey Auton with his award. Darcey is a 4th year apprentice at Elliot Bros. and is highly regarded in the workshop. As part of the award, Darcey also gets a $1000 voucher from Supercheap Auto. After congratulating Darcey on his win and checking out a few of the motorcycles on offer in the shop, the branch members retreated to Lake Weroona for a sausage sizzle.

Ulysses Club Inc. is the largest motorcycling organisation within Australia and has once again hosted the National “Motorcycle Apprentice of the Year” (MAOTY) Award as a means of promoting and enhancing the motorcycle training environment within Australia.
The seed to implement MAOTY was sown in April 2003 where Founding Member Stephen Dearnley saw that there was a need to “encourage and promote the youth in pursuing a career in the motorcycle industry”; this would also instil confidence that the highest standard of training is accessible to our members, ensuring that the mechanical maintenance of their motorcycles are in capable hands.

Having the chance to win a motorbike was a huge incentive for me to put in that extra bit of study, which wasn’t a real chore because motorcycles are a major interest of mine.
