Road Rules in NSW pertaining to Motorcycles

 

Parking

 

Parking on footpaths is illegal in NSW.

 

Parking is allowed in:

Designated motorcycle parks
Designated motorcar parks

 

Motorcycles may also park at an angle.

 

 

Towing

 

Motorcycles and trailer combinations are allowed to travel at the designated speed indicated on the speed sign.

 

 

Speed

 

Motorcycles are subject to the same speed restrictions as other motor vehicles. Be wary of varied speed zones on some routes as these can change over short distances.

 

 

Transit Lanes and Bus Lanes

 

Motorcycles are allowed to travel in T2 and T3 Transit Lanes.

 

Motorcycles are allowed to travel in a "Bus Lane", however lanes that are marked “Bus Only Lanes” are not permitted for motorcycle travel.

 

 

Lane Splitting

 

Lane splitting is illegal in NSW.

 

 

School Zones

 

School Zones speed restrictions are in force in NSW where they are signposted. Hours of enforcement vary and are designated on the signs. Some school zones are fitted with flashing warning lights when active.

 

 

U –Turns

 

At intersection with Traffic Lights:

Only permitted where there is a U-turn permitted sign

At intersection without Traffic Lights:

Not permitted where there is a No U-turn permitted sign
