Clarence Town Camping

The last weekend of October found Branch members camping at the Williams River Caravan Park. Most of us opted for four wheels although there were a couple of die hard bikers on their bikes with trailers in tow. And some took the more luxurious option of hiring a cabin at the caravan park.

By the time Brian & I arrived at 5pm Friday there were already three caravans and two camper trailers set up with their occupants sitting back and enjoying happy hour. John and Helen arrived soon after on their bike with their trailer and camping gear.

We all set up camp and had a quiet drink or two before dinner. A few campers headed down to the local bowling club for dinner which by all reports was a very nice meal. The evening ended with us all sitting around Ken & Gail’s camp fire.

The next morning we were all surprised that Faye had her knickers in a knot - literally. It seems that when Faye & Terry went to the club for dinner the night before person or persons unknown tied a few knots in some clothing - and - the sheets seemed a bit shorter too! Seems their coffee, sugar and teaspoons went missing as well!

After a lazy breakfast of bacon and eggs we all set off to the Clarence Town Markets which were set up off the main street. Most of us managed to part with some of our hard earned cash and returned to camp to relax for the rest of the day. It was nice to be surprised by day visitors, Wally & Cheryl, Deb & Dallas on their bike, and Ross and Julie as well as others who made a last minute decision to come and camp for the night. The day was turning warm and while most just lazed around and kept moving to follow the shade, Greg & Jenny had been paddling in their kayak down on the river again and Steve was even more energetic, paddling 10kms up and down the river.

Tonight we all stayed at camp for our bbq dinner and when the bugs started to bite we made our way once again to Ken & Gail’s camp fire to talk the night away.

Sunday morning saw all of us, apart from Greg & Jenny who were fortunate to be able to stay another day, pack up to head home. Thanks all for coming along. It was a relaxing way to spend the weekend in good company.
