There have only been a couple of people riding anywhere these last few weeks. Here is Neville & Ros Rose’s story
Well hello everyone,
I’ve been off around the country side again, just the big girl, Reg and myself, the wife stayed at home. Out west is the most barren part of Australia, straight boring roads, the only humps belonged to the camels sauntering around the countryside and the only bends belonged to the hundreds of black snakes.
Reg's Harley is in the shop (still) and he had paid his money for the Ghost Town Rally, Ros couldn't find a relief, so Reg and I decided to brave the elements and that we did. Winds, southerlies and westerlies at 100 kph, hot winds then someone turned the heater off. It was so ^&$%$%#* cold and then the rain. Waking up in 2 inches of water not my definition of comfort.
Broken Hill, what can I say, worth the visit, plenty to see, fuel soooo expensive and the people are so friendly. Made some great friends, palled up with the Griffith Mafia, Loui, Dino and Pat, (I know how to look after myself).
Met Tony "the snake man" from Wagga Wagga. He took his favourite pet snakes with him and they were in the tent with him and then to top it off he was looking for more while he was there. He should have been with Reg and I from Bourke to Broken Hill, could have started his own Zoo.
The locals informed us that you do not go to Broken Hill at this time of year the best time is March April, we are a few months out. Anyone contemplating this journey contact me so I can word you up on fuel stops and best pubs. All right guys and gal’s next rally at Millmerran, see you there
Neville
Only two CCCs ventured out of Moree on the October weekend designated for the Thunder Rolls Rally at Millmerran in QLD. After much ado we had to take the car, talk about brave hearts. However someone was watching over us as we hit a dead roo on the way up, it was the roo or the bushes.
The impact pulled all the wiring out of the trailer so Sunday morning was spent rewiring the trailer before we could leave. We arrived to late for the games, which included dummy spitting, tyre rolling and egg throwing.
About 100 bikers from all walks of life had come together to have a weekend of fun. The alcohol flowed, the music played, and some danced, while others sat around and told jokes and listened to tales bigger than Ben Hur. The usual party girl was having the time of her life with behaviour that had many a biker wondering. There were many prizes and great raffles.
Allan and Bery won the egg throwing competition. It was a great weekend and we can guarantee one thing. See you there next year.
Ros and Nev
There were also 4 intrepid travelers who did the trip to the Grand Prix in Phillip Island this year – they were Ian Heferen, Dennis and Lyn McGuire and Ian Edmunds. All had a great time, came home quite deaf from the roar of the bike engines and maybe one or two said it was a long way to ride to see a bike race.
The next ride is off to the Beardies Festival in Glen Innes. Neville and Ros Rose are the only 2 that I know of that are going. If you would like to travel over to Glen with them, please give Neville a call on 6752 1479 in the evenings.
We welcome our new members Tracy & Chris Berry from “Silverleaf” at Tallwood. Tracy and Chris came to our get together in September with Marg and Tiger and then won the raffle that Marg and Tiger ran in aid of Prostrate Cancer.
The planning for 2007 Muster is shaping up to be the best Muster ever. We would like to make a theme for the next Muster, so everyone give me your ideas and we will take a vote and pick the best theme. The first planning meeting for 2007 Muster is to be held at the Mehi River Van Park on Wednesday 8th November at 7.00pm.
We were fortunate to have Marg and Tiger visit our little group in early September. They have been traveling round Oz promoting Prostrate Awareness. We had a great night with about 14 members turning up for the BBQ and talk given to us by Margaret. We thank them both for the informative talk on Prostrate Cancer and wish them well.
It is that time of year again when we start to think of Christmas. We have made a booking at the Mungindi Hotel. I know it is only a short ride about - 1 hour – but with everyone’s busy life these day, this sort of thing might appeal to a lot more than a long weekend ride.
We will be leaving Moree on Saturday 2nd December at 3.30pm. For those that would like to just join us for dinner and a few drinks, the hotel is serving a 2 course meal and pre dinner drinks for between $20 - $23 per head.
If you would like to stay the night rooms are available for $20 per head and if you wish to eat a cooked brekky the next morning it will only cost $10 per head. I will need to have numbers for this ASAP, so please give Cathy a call no later than 17th November. You will pay on the day.
As this will be the last newsletter before Christmas, on behalf of Ian and Cathy, we wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you are riding anywhere over the holidays, please stay upright and come home safe.
As I said earlier, we are having a Muster Meeting on Wednesday 8th November at 7.00pm at the Mehi River Van Park. Everyone is welcome.
For those of you that would like to have a ride in January, perhaps we can do a ride to Belatta and meet the Narrabri group there. Anyone that would be interested in organizing this for the later part of January please let Cathy know.
1. We are an informal group of the Ulysses Club Inc. As
such we do not have a committee and we do not carry Public Liability or other
insurance on behalf of our group.
2. If you ride with us we assume that you are a licensed
rider, that your bike is registered and roadworthy and that you have
appropriate personal insurances in place, or accept the consequences of not
having done so.
3. We also assume that you, like us, accept that there
are potential risks in riding bikes on public roads.
4. Our rides run on an informal basis. We do not have a
“ride captain” as such and the person who is “leader” will depend on who is
there at the time, and this may change from time to time during a run.
5. Before setting out we count the bikes and nominate where
the next stopping point will be.
6. At each stopping point we will wait until all bikes
have been accounted for.
7. If you are leaving a run midway please make sure the
other riders know your intentions.
8. We do not ride in formation. Each rider is encouraged
to travel at their own pace. If riders get behind, we regather at the next
stopping off point.
9. It is quite OK to pass other riders, even the
“Leader”, provided you do so safely.
10. Do NOT ride up the tail of the bike in front;
we consider a gap of at least 3 seconds is appropriate.
11. Do not put pressure on other riders; you cannot be
sure how they will react.
12. Ride within your own comfort zone.
13. Keep and eye out for the rider behind you in case
they get into trouble.
14. We’re here to enjoy our bikes and each others
company; we assume you are here for the same reason!!
And once again many thanks to our Sponsors, Thomas Lee Motorcycles in Moree (and now Gundy) and Grant Douch Motorcycles Narrabri. Their support through discounts to members and the providing of valuable raffle prizes is greatly appreciated.
