2007 Welcome

Well, here we are 2007 already.  I trust everyone had a very Merry Christmas and behaved themselves over the New Year.  Nobody has been doing any riding because of the extreme heat.  Let’s hope we can do some great riding this year.

News and Things

Bruce from Narrabri has sent me a fax for a Day Ride he has organized for Sunday 28th January.  They are leaving Narrabri Maccas at 8.30am – meet at Moree Maccas at 9.30am approx. then onto Warialda, Myall Creek Memorial Site, off to the Winery at Delungra, out to Cranky Rock and then home via Terry Hie Hie Road.  If you are wanting join Bruce on this ride, give him a call on 6792 1586 during working hours.

Another ride for those that would like to do an overnighter on the Australia Day weekend is to Glenn Innes.  Leave Moree on Friday 26th January at approx. 10.30am.  Lunch in Inverell and then onto the Criagieburn Tourist Park at Glen Innes.  Rex and Robyn at the Caravan Park will cook us a BBQ dinner on the Friday night.

On Saturday, we can do some fossicking  at the Caravan Park for Sapphires, Zircons and Garnets in the morning off to Emmaville for Lunch, a look at the many mines & museums in the area.

On Saturday night we walk the short distance to the Steak House for Dinner and then ride to back to Moree on Sunday morning.  Robyn has cabins at the park from $72.00 and powered / un-powered sites from $18.  I will need to have numbers for this weekend by  22nd January.

Moree Muster

Planning is well underway for this years Muster.   Friday night will be at the Caravan Park with Camp Ovens, the Saturday night function at the Services Club. and then Sunday back to the Mehi for a BBQ hosted by Apex.

If any of you are looking to help in any way, please give me a call.  I am sure your talents will be put to good use.

Sad News

Dennis Wilson, from the Gold Coast Ulysses, has been a visitor to every Moree Muster.  He was a great ambassador for our Muster and always bought a large contingent with him every year.   Dennis made all of the patches for just about everyone that wears them on their vest.  He made our Muster patch every year.

Sadly, Dennis passed away on 26th December, 2006.  He had been unwell for some time, although he would never tell you so.  He will be missed.

Our sympathies are extended to his wife Lana and family.

Next Meeting

The next Monthly Meeting will be held at Barry & Vicki Mowle’s new home.  This will be a Bar B Q and everyone will pay Vicki for the meal at cost.  Camping is available for those that do not wish to drive home that night.  The meeting will be on Saturday 10th February from approx. 6.00pm.  BYO Alcohol and chairs.  Numbers to Vicki by 8th February - phone 6752 5655.

Ride Protocol

1.   We are an informal group of the Ulysses Club Inc. As such we do not have a committee and we do not carry Public Liability or other insurance on behalf of our group.

2.   If you ride with us we assume that you are a licensed rider, that your bike is registered and roadworthy and that you have appropriate personal insurances in place, or accept the consequences of not having done so.

3.   We also assume that you, like us, accept that there are potential risks in riding bikes on public roads.

4.   Our rides run on an informal basis. We do not have a “ride captain” as such and the person who is “leader” will depend on who is there at the time, and this may change from time to time during a run.

5.   Before setting out we count the bikes and nominate where the next stopping point will be.

6.   At each stopping point we will wait until all bikes have been accounted for.

7.   If you are leaving a run midway please make sure the other riders know your intentions.

8.   We do not ride in formation. Each rider is encouraged to travel at their own pace. If riders get behind, we regather at the next stopping off point.

9.   It is quite OK to pass other riders, even the “Leader”, provided you do so safely.

10. Do NOT ride up the tail of the bike in front; we consider a gap of at least 3 seconds is appropriate.

11. Do not put pressure on other riders; you cannot be sure how they will react.

12. Ride within your own comfort zone.

13. Keep and eye out for the rider behind you in case they get into trouble.

14. We’re here to enjoy our bikes and each others company; we assume you are here for the same reason!!

And once, again many thanks to our Sponsors, Thomas Lee Motorcycles in Moree and Gundy and Grant Douch Motorcycles Narrabri. Their support through discounts to members and the providing of valuable raffle prizes is greatly appreciated.
