Our last ride

.

No one has given me any reports on rides they have been doing.  The only ride I know that has happened was to Werris Creek.  After having made a couple of phone calls, no one wanted to write a report, but all tell me they had a great time.  If anyone does go on a ride, please do up a small report.  Some of us do not have the luxury of being able to ride often, and it is always great to read about other people’s experiences.

Our next ride

.

Bruce from Narrabri has organized something for the Easter weekend.  Depart Maccas Narrabri at 8.00am on Friday, 14th April and head off to Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie for an overnight stay and then on to Nymboydia, then home on Sunday.  All up around, 1100kms for the three day ride.  Sounds like a great weekend planned, but you need to book so give Bruce a call on 6792 1586 during Business hours to RSVP by 23rd March, 06.

On Sunday 19th March, there will be a ride to Graman for Lunch.  The Publican of the Hotel at Graman is a Ulyssian , but will be in Tasmania at the AGM..  She has made arrangements for us to be well looked after.  We meet at Maccas at Moree at 10.00 am for a 10.30 start.  The meal will be around $15 per head.  The Hotel would like numbers a day or so before hand, so please call me and let me know if you would like to go.  The number is 6752 7188.

John McKee would like to organize a ride for the weekend 27/28th May.  It will be a nice long one, for those of you that are in for a great ride.  Leave Moree 8.00am on 27th May, then across to Grafton, Coffs Harbour and then onto Dorrigo for the night.  A nice ride home on Sunday the short way.  If you are interested, please give John McKee a call (6752 3967) as he will need to book the accommodation at Dorrigo.

Moree Muster

The Muster Planning is coming along nicely.  We have booked the Founders Pavilion at the Moree Showgrounds for the Saturday night.  We have already had several registrations come in.  If you know anyone that is coming from out of town, tell them they should book their accommodation early, as there is a Rugby Carnival in Town on the same weekend, so places to stay are getting scarce.

The next planning Meeting will be held on Saturday 18th March at John & Cheryl McKee’s home, 5 Lorna Rae Ave., Moree at 6.30pm.  This will be a BBQ get together.  You bring the meat and grog and Cheryl will provide the salads. Do not forget to get your registrations in – we will need plenty of locals there to make this year’s Muster bigger and better than ever.

Around the traps

.

At our last meeting, it was decided to have a meeting every second month, not just for the Muster, but a get together.  The first one is at John and Cheryl McKee’s place on 18th March.

The one after that will be 13th May at Ian and Margaret  Heferen’s in Dover Street.

I received an update of what’s on in the Tramby household, so I have added it below for everyone’s information.

1.                       Mark has started his new business – Ambassador Holidays –Address is

Suite 24/101 Wickham Terrace, Brisbane. Postal address is P.O Box 2208, Brisbane Qld 4000. Telephone number is 07-   38399311. The office set up has been a little slower than we would have liked but at least we are in business. The official start up date will be the 20th of February. Email is  mark@ambassadortravel.com.au

2.                       I have started a new job. I am the office manager for Radbe Consulting, a small business of consultants that liaises between businesses and government departments. A complete change of workplace for me, still trying to work it all out but I have only been a week on the job so still very much on ‘L’ plates. I am finding it really interesting and a great challenge. The brain cells are certainly working overtime.

3.                       The best news of all is we have purchased a townhouse in Taringa which is about 5 kilometres from the city. It settles on Tuesday, 14/02/06 and we move in on Wednesday 15/02/06. It will really seem as though we have made the move once we have a piece of dirt that we can call our own again. It will certainly be wonderful to have our things out of storage and in our own home again.

Our address is Unit 3, 20 Montrose Road, Taringa Qld 4068.

Telephone number is 07-3217 7500.

Mobile Mark 0438 465686 & Rosemary 0407 948174

Mark will be catching the train to work and I have about a 15 minute drive to work which is all very convenient.

See you all at the Muster – Mark & Rosemary.

Hi everyone

As Cathy has probably already mentioned we are set up in Brisbane, in our new Townhouse at Taringa which in reasonably inner city (Western Suburbs…which is the trendy part of Brissie).

Been for a few runs on the bike but it’s fairly hot and humid at present and not the best conditions for riding.

At this stage have not been in contact with any of the Ulysses groups as we have been full on setting up the new business and the new house, might get into that in a few weeks time.

Rosemary has a new job working for a consultancy firm as “office manager”, she is enjoying the job but it is quite a challenge for her so it remains to be seen if she still is enjoying it in 6 months time. It’s a 10 minute drive (luckily against the traffic) each way for her morning and night so it’s a very convenient position as far as that goes.

I’m a daily train commuter now (isn’t that a hoot!!!), 4 stops into central station every morning and back at night with the thousands of other workers….we are lucky as our home is only a 5 minute walk to the station.

Hope you are all well and looking forward to seeing everyone again at the Muster in April / May

Best wishes

Mark Tramby

I would like to put a few more rides on our Calendar,  maybe a ride on the long weekend in October to catch up with the Toowoomba Group.  If anyone has any ideas, please give me a call.  It would be great if we had the whole year booked with rides, so that everyone can plan their weekends.  We may get a few more people on rides if they are planned well in advance.

Suzie & Bill Holmes are taking holidays to Carnarvon  Gorge.  If anyone would like to go on a ride with them, they are leaving 16th July for 2 weeks.  Suzie’s phone number is 67 92 4031.

I am always looking for bits for the Newsletter.  So please send in anything.  It certainly gives me a new appreciation for what Mark used to do each and every month, trying to put this together.  It is very hard if no one sends anything in to write about.

Till next month,

Cathy Edmunds

Ride Protocol

1.      We are an informal group of the Ulysses Club Inc. As such we do not have a committee and we do not carry Public Liability or other insurance on behalf of our group.

2.      If you ride with us we assume that you are a licensed rider, that your bike is registered and roadworthy and that you have appropriate personal insurances in place, or accept the consequences of not having done so.

3.      We also assume that you, like us, accept that there are potential risks in riding bikes on public roads.

4.      Our rides run on an informal basis. We do not have a “ride captain” as such and the person who is “leader” will depend on who is there at the time, and this may change from time to time during a run.

5.      Before setting out we count the bikes and nominate where the next stopping point will be.

6.      At each stopping point we will wait until all bikes have been accounted for.

7.      If you are leaving a run midway please make sure the other riders know your intentions.

8.      We do not ride in formation. Each rider is encouraged to travel at their own pace. If riders get behind, we regather at the next stopping off point.

9.      It is quite OK to pass other riders, even the “Leader”, provided you do so safely.

10. Do NOT ride up the tail of the bike in front, we consider a gap of at least 3 seconds is appropriate.

11. Do not put pressure on other riders, you cannot be sure how they will react.

12. Ride within your own comfort zone.

13. Keep and eye out for the rider behind you in case they get into trouble.

14. We’re here to enjoy our bikes and each others company, we assume you are here for the same reason!!

And once again many thanks to our Sponsors, Thomas Lee Motorcycles in Moree (and now Gundy) and Grant Douch Motorcycles Narrabri. Their support through discounts to members and the providing of valuable raffle prizes is greatly appreciated.
