Message from NSW
Ambulance Service
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its
memory but nobody, other than if we were to be involved in an accident or
were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but
wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but
which one is the contact person in case of an
emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The concept of
'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency
situations. As cell phones are carried by the
majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be
contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of
Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he
went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients,
but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it
would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this
purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff
would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number
you have stored as 'ICE'

Dorrigo
Bakery Gluttony
On Saturday the 5th of April, a brave 26 odd bikers took to the road on a trip up the Mountain, to a cold and bleak Dorrigo.
Arriving at the Dorrigo Bakery on lunch, the gang was shown around the wood fired ovens, and given a history lesson at the same time, thanks to part owner Brian Hoffman. However, the attention was quickly drawn away from the ovens, as an assortment of hot pies was brought out. With bottom-less cups of tea and coffee on offer, everyone enjoyed a nice chat whilst warming up, and throwing down a couple of pies. Next came a wide range of delicious cakes and slices that went down a treat.
So with belly’s bulging the bikers faced the almost raining Dorrigo again, and headed back down the mountain, hopefully staying safe and dry.
Thanks to all those who made it, and to the Dorrigo Bakery, for a great afternoon, and a few extra kilos!

ANZAC DAY
RIDE Ref the Anzac day ride.
Plan A is as follows
25th April Leave Coffs 9 am (this allows for the early morning Anzac
session). Approx 370kms
Up via Casino to Tenterfield to Stanthorpe Caravan park (07 4681 4888 "4
star"?)
Some sights to see inc. "Just red wines", "Chocolate
Factory", "Castle
Glen Liqueurs" but I have a whack of pamphlets so you can plan the attack.
26th Leave head for
(but have an alternative if it aint) down through Ashford, Inverell,
Bundurra to Uralla. Approx 400 kms
Uralla @ Top End Pub 02 6778 4110
Visit McCossin Mill Museum,
Scotty's Chopper factory is closed that day, Gostwyck Station, Bridge &
Chapel (route 19), the whole town has old building and worth the walk
around.
27th Return Home. via,
Walcha? Port or
Glen Innes?
NB I have brochures on each place so we can decide to do individual
things or a groupie attack on a "winery" etc but this can be decided
on
the day.
This ride has the potential for a 3 day easy ride,,
join in for an
overnighter at the first or second stop or a day run on the 27th and
return with the troops, or any other combination I havent thought of.
You will need to book your own accommodation please, but dont leave it
too late, there is a 2nd pub in Uralla and a caravan park but I'm not
sure on their standard.
Comments or questions welcome

the return from the club ride to Ulmarra after our quarterly meeting, Ray
Barnes had to pushed to get started. His Harley stopped with a flat battery
about 20k,s south of Grafton. As
usual plenty of riders stopped to help. One suggested he might like one
of those space blankets that Sherley suggested we carry so he could hide his
broken down Harley. In hindsight if we had pulled his light fuse so that his
headlight was off he may have made it home. Ray sent the following email to the
club. Andrew
Just sending you
a message so you can let the others on the ride know. The NRMA turned up half
hour latter got the Bike started and expected me to ride home until I asked him
what would happen 1 minutes down the road. He then checked the charging with a
volt meter and watched the charge go from 14 volts to
5 volts and the motor stop. He then organised a tow for me.

FRONT NUMBER PLATES "The Victorian
Police (almost uniquely of all the World’s Police Forces) seem to be unable to
use well tested cameras to photograph the rear of motorcycles and scooters. In
an effort to stigmatise motorcyclists still further for their own operational
shortfalls, they are now once again pressing for front number plates for all
motorcycles, despite the fact that internationally the only countries that
require this are that paragon of road safety –
The Motorcycle Riders Association may be forced to re-visit its Front Number
Plate campaign if a draft Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS), dated December
2007 and issued by Vic Roads without consultation with the Victorian Motorcycle
Advisory Council, currently doing State government rounds with a view to
introducing front identification decals commencing 2009 goes ahead.
The RIS is circulating amongst other Australian government agencies and is
scheduled for sign off at an Australian Transport Council meeting, attended by
all State and Federal Transport ministers, sometime this year to meet the
proposed 2009 introduction.
Users to Pay Motorcycle riders will be forced to pay up to $200 for every
motorcycle they own as part of the retrofit/installation requirements
associated with the introduction of the Frontal Identification. This even
includes vintage machines only used on the road under Club permit limitations.
Added to the costs are safety and aesthetic considerations for those
motorcycles that will need brackets affixed to the front or holes drilled to
hold the proposed decals.
The timing of this RIS with CRIMTRAKS recent announcement of the planned use of
hundreds of nation wide ANPR cameras suggests that this RIS may not be about
safety at all, but rather about real time surveillance and data base building
of the movements of the entire driving population. Otherwise why this almost
uniquely Australian need to rely on frontal detection?
The MRAA has argued in the past that the $22million cost of introducing Frontal
Identification is wasteful for the net recovery of about $300,000 in extra
speeding fines. According to MRA Vice-President John Karmouche, one of a group
of past leaders/organizers of a campaign to stop the introduction of Frontal ID
in 2003, "Riders are already paying a $50 safety levy, and there is a lot
of good work being done in other areas that negates the effect of going down
this path. The RIS is based on injury/fatality data pre 2005. Since 2005
fatalities/injuries have come down and per-capita this reduction has been
magnified by the fact that the number of motorcycles and scooters on
The MRA has contacted internationally recognised transport expert Professor
Marcus Wigan, author of the initial reports on which the FNP program at
VicRoads was based. Dr Wigan has agreed to comment on the current Draft RIS in
the interests of properly informed public debate.
Professor Wigan is Emeritus Professor of Computing and Transport Systems at
