Presentation of a Cheque to support the Snowy Hydro Southcare helicopter

On the 29th October members of the Canberra Branch of the Ulysses Club presented a cheque to a member of the board of the Snowy Hydro Southcare helicopter.

Snowy Hydro SouthCare provides the aero-medical and rescue helicopter service to the Australian Capital Territory and the southeast region of New South Wales.

Snowy Hydro SouthCare often flies directly to the scene of an accident to take the patient as quickly as possible to hospital while the flight paramedics provide the best in pre-hospital care.

The helicopter (which is a Bell 412) is also a vital tool in search and rescue operations whether it is on land or at sea. Snowy Hydro SouthCare is fitted with a winch and the flight paramedics are trained to carry out winch rescues, even in difficult conditions.

Snowy Hydro SouthCare is also capable of aerial firefighting. Using a Bambi bucket the helicopter can carry more than 1000 litres of water per drop.

The cheque, for $2500.00 mostly represents many hours of work by our dedicated barbeque team, who regularly cook and sell a variety of food at the Canberra Motorcycle Centre and other venues.

The cheque was presented to Kristyne Van Schieveen, who expressed the appreciation of the Board for the donation. Kristyne also acknowledged that we have made previous donations and they are very appreciative of our year on year support.

While we were at the Base, the helicopter was called out to a mission, and we were able to observe the preparation the crew, consisting of Pilot, aircrewmen, intensive care paramedic, and doctor, undertakes prior to lift off. Unlike TV, there was no rushing around; rather the crew stepped through a carefully prepared set of procedures.

After the presentation we had a good look around the base, and were even able to watch Elvis sing a few songs!!

Honourable mention : Those who attended
