Well I’d like to say that the day dawned bright and sunny, but it didn’t. It dawned quite foggy and cold. Never-the-less a hardy band of riders turned up to Café Injoy for a breakfast and/or first coffee of the day, ready for a ten o’clock departure. It was great to see Trevor M. back, having arisen from his sick bed and ready to lead us on to Cootamundra.
So, having taken instruction from Trevor on the ride route, we set off for Boorowa, which was to be the morning tea stop. The weather from the Hume Highway to Boorowa consisted of very thick fog or actual rain, depending on who was giving the description. Either way the stop at Boorowa was welcome with many coffees and pastries consumed.
A slightly smaller group headed off to Cootamundra, as a number of others were happy to meander home from Boorowa or were off to Young to buy spicy jam from the Jam Factory. For those heading to Cootamundra it was a pleasant ride with the weather improving, and lots of green fields to look at. You know Spring can’t be far away as there were loads of little white lambs frolicking around the paddocks (mmmmmm, lamb).
The name of the place that we had lunch in, in Cootamundra, escapes me, but it was much loved by the very elderly folk of Cootamundra. In fact, we would have been some of the youngest there! Bruce Black, in particular, was kept busy assisting the old folks into and out of their walking frames, receiving much praise for his efforts.
Leaving the lunching establishment, we fuelled up and had Chris Stuart, who seems to have some local knowledge, lead us on a back road odyssey towards Binalong. Thanks very much Chris!! A very enjoyable ride it was too.
One more pit stop was had in Binalong, with coffees drunk and tales told by the lovely open fire. It was then off home via Yass and the Barton Highway.
A great winter ride, led ably by Trevor, Peter and Chris.
