There was something of a crowded start at Watson, as the front Court had a mixed contingent of MRA ACT riders and Canberra Riders, evidently with different destinations planned, with the Ulyssian contingent meeting at the rear of the servo - in the sun. Lots of options for a rider this weekend it seems.
And what a fine day it was, with bright sunshine tempered with perhaps a bit too strong a chill breeze. St Peter gave the pre ride sermon reminding us of the three second gap, overtaking suggestions and a clear set of directions of where to go.
The group, made up of Chomp ‘n Chatter’s and Rusty Rider’s, followed a well worn but pleasantly winding path to Bungendore via the Federal Highway and then Macs Reef Road. There were a few wet patches in the shaded areas, but with a steady pace there were no concerns, the trees bringing a little shelter from the wind.
We took a short diversion to Tarago and from there a right turn took us to Doughboy. The breeze continued to chill so the group took a right onto the Kings Highway to a stop at Bungendore for the chat, munch and a chance to warm up. We didn’t see any of the polar bears and seals spotted by last weekends riders, but there was no doubt that they (the critters) would have felt quite at home.
Bardy’s Bungendore Café fed us well as always and Cindy found a solar powered lounge against the window.
Following the chat, coffee and a late breakfast/early lunch we took our leave with one group heading back to Canberra the way we came, and the remaining few heading back along the Kings Highway, to return to the “darkside” (evidently the north and south sides of Canberra still look at each other askance, to the bemusement of the NSW dwellers).
Thanks again to all - the chill of the wind was certainly balanced by the company of good friends.
