At the 2019  AGM held in Mornington, Leo Farrelly #21630 was awarded Dearnley Medal #66. This was the submission made to the National Committee.

Leo Farrelly joined the Ulysses Club in September 2000, quickly becoming involved in both the preparation of the 2005 AGM Event to be held in Canberra, as well as the Branch Committee of the Canberra Branch. Leo assisted with the project planning for the 2005 AGM Event, including the preparation of documentation for the various areas of the event, and  managing the contract for Exhibition Park In Canberra, and being the site manager in the lead up to the event, and working on site.

In 2009, Leo was instrumental in the team that organised what was called the LNCIAO “Let’s Not Call It an Odyssey” which was  hosted by Canberra Brancg and invited members from other states to spend the long weekend in Jindabyne at the Station Resort.

Leo has been involved in the 10th Anniversary of the Canberra AGM Event, the 25th and the 30th Anniversary of the Canberra Branch. Leo was elected to the Canberra Branch Committee as Treasurer for the period 2006 to 2010, reassigning when he was elected to the National Committee as the Treasurer, remaining in the national role until 2013. Leo was an integral member of the committee, providing careful and measured advice while being the treasurer.   This was during a tumultuous time in the club’s history and Leo was a steady voice on the National Committee. During his time on the national committee, Leo drafted several financial policies which are still in use today, and he also introduced electronic branch financial reporting. Management of the budgets for 3 AGM Events, and his ability to work with the event treasurers ensured that these events were not only a success for those attending, but also delivered a sound financial outcome for the Ulysses Club.

Leo leads by example, attending most National Rallies (formerly called AGM Events), volunteering as requiring and providing advice if requested.

Leo became the Branch BBQ Coordinator several years ago, organising the BBQ at Canberra Motorcycle Centre on a monthly basis. This involved taking the BBQ to CMC, buying the food, organising the volunteers and then cleaning the trailer ready for next time. The BBQ’s at CMC  raised the profile of Ulysses Club and raised funds for charity. The BBQ breakfast has long been a feature of the Motorcyclists Annual Toy and Blanket Runs.

The National Committee congratulate Leo and thanks him for his service
