Gernot Minig sent us a wrap up of their year...
2018 was another good year for us.
We had regular day rides, many of them crossing borders into France, Luxemburg or even Belgium.
We also had our regular club meetings on the first and third Friday in a month. On two of those meetings we had picture shows. On one of them Gerhard talked to us about his bike tour through Iceland and on the other one I talked about the Ulysses Gathering in Zimbabwe, which we had attended in 2017.
In February we had our “Schraubertag” again. On that day we practise maintaining and servicing our bikes under the guidance of two experienced motorbike mechanics.
In order to further improve riding safety, a self-organised safety training course was held in April with theory and practice on gaze guidance and cornering techniques.
In May we had our traditional Whitsun Gathering. 35 Ulysseans from Germany and Great Britain met in the medieval town of Idstein to socialize, go for rides and simply enjoy each other’s company
In July 24 of us attended the European Ulysses Gathering in Harrogate/England. Most of us extended their stay in Britain to explore more of its beautiful scenery, often accompanied or guided by our friends from Ulysses GB.
In August we met in the Vosges in France for a camping weekend. For three days we could enjoy its twisty, winding mountain roads.
But most important of all, it was another year without any accidents. Of course, there is always luck in the game, but the pleasant fact also speaks for a prudent and safety-conscious driving style with the Ulyssians.
** Gernot and his wife Wally will be attending the 2019 National Rally in a few weeks - make sure you say hi to them!
